Square Dashboard vs the Command Bar: the money outside Square
Square makes it easy to take a payment, and its dashboard shows a lot. If you run your payroll and your checking through Square too, it shows even more. But most owners' money doesn't all move through Square, and that's the part the dashboard can't see.

What Square shows you well
Every Square plan includes sales reporting. Square Plus, at $49 a month per location, adds inventory management, vendors and purchase orders, and cost of goods sold reports. If you also use Square Payroll, you get labor-cost reporting, and Square Checking shows your card sales landing right away.
For an owner who runs everything through Square, that's a lot of the picture in one place. We'd rather say that up front.
The money outside Square
Here's the catch: almost nobody runs everything through Square. Your main business account is probably at a bank or credit union. Rent comes out of it. Your distributor sends invoices with net-30 terms. There's a credit card, maybe an equipment loan, maybe payroll through a different company.
None of that is in your Square Dashboard. So the dashboard can tell you sales were up 8% this week while your actual cash is about to get tight.

Sales up, cash down: why both views matter
Square answers "how are sales?" The question that keeps owners up is different: "after everything I owe, how much do I actually have, and will it last until the slow season?"
That takes sales and every bill, loan and payroll run in one place, looked at 13 weeks ahead. The Command Bar builds that view from your sales and a view-only feed of your bank, and every Monday a short memo tells you the three things to do this week.

When Square's dashboard is enough
We'd rather tell you straight:
- You run your sales, checking and payroll all through Square, and your bills are simple.
- You have one location and you mostly want to know what's selling.
- You check your other accounts yourself and it doesn't keep you up at night.
When the Command Bar is the better choice
- Your main bank, cards or loans live outside Square.
- You want to know cash after every bill, not just sales.
- You run more than one location, or you're about to.
- You'd rather be told the three things to do this week than read reports.
Use both
Square stays your register. Your staff keep ringing up the same way, and your card deposits keep landing where they do now. The Command Bar reads your sales alongside your bank and bills, view-only, so you see the whole business without changing how it runs.
How setup works
- A short intake call. Tell us your systems, your stores and your bills, and we give you a go-live date.
- You connect your accounts with view-only access. We never ask for your passwords.
- We build your board and walk you through it. Billing for the month only starts when your board goes live.
We build your Square connection during setup, and you get a timeline at the intake.
Questions
Does the Command Bar work with Square?
Yes. We build the Square connection for you during setup. Tell us at the intake and we'll give you a timeline.
Will my staff have to change how they use Square?
No. They keep using Square exactly as they do today. The Command Bar only reads your numbers.
I use Square Checking and Square Payroll. Do I still need this?
Maybe not, if everything runs through Square and your bills are simple. If you also have a main bank account, a credit card, loans or distributor bills outside Square, that's what the Command Bar adds.
Can it move money or change anything in Square?
No. Every connection is view-only. It can't pay, transfer or change anything in your bank or your Square account.
Does it work for cafes and restaurants on Square?
Yes. Sales, labor and cash work the same way, and every Monday you get the three things to do for the week ahead.
What does it cost?
Core is $1,500 to set up and $199 a month. Full is $3,000 and $349 a month. That's launch pricing for our first ten businesses, locked for the first year. See plans
